SWOT Analysis Implementation Plan Paper

In Unit IV, you started to create an implementation plan. You selected a company and analyzed their strategy and mission. In Unit VI, we will continue your work with this company and develop a SWOT analysis.

Remember that a SWOT analysis identifies strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of an organization. This is an important analysis for any organization as it can be used for strategic planning. Your SWOT analysis must be a minimum of two pages in length. Once you have completed your SWOT analysis, write a minimum of one page, explaining how this information could be used by the company.

Please use the linked template below to complete the SWOT analysis and explanation. Save the template using your last name and student ID. For example, John Smith whose student ID is 12345 would save his assignment as Smith12345. The information you need to complete this analysis can be found in the case studies located in your textbook on pages 357-614. You will need to reference your textbook and at least one outside source for this assignment. You are encouraged to utilize the CSU Online Library, but you may also use external sources, as long as the source is reliable.

Complete: a minimum of 1000 words (total assignment) and three scholarly resources. (Note: References do not apply towards the word count).

Q. What are acceptable sources of information for my responses?

A. The primary source of answers comes from the course Read and Attend sections. I consider a source as scholarly and academic if it is published in an edited book (not a textbook), in a peer-reviewed publication, in an academic journal, or by a university press. Most web sources will not meet the criteria for a scholarly source.

Note: Academic journals are located in the University Library (CLICK HERE) online, or through Google Scholar.

Wikipedia is not credible and must be avoided. Other sources such as study.com and coursehero practice plagiarism and are to be avoided. Newspapers and magazines are not scholarly sources and do not count as a source.

Citing a source does not give license to copy word-for-word or verbatim, which is still plagiarism. You must paraphrase the information in your own words. Plagiarism may result in zero points for the entire unit assignment and/or course failure.

1. Define “environment” in your own words. Be sure to include the terms biotic and abiotic in your answer. Identify four biotic biosphere components and four abiotic biosphere components in your current environment.

2.Differentiate between the “conservation ethic” and the “preservation ethic.” Be sure to identify one person associated with each in your answer.

3.Explain the idea of environmental justice and give one example of an environmental justice issue.

4.Differentiate between anthropocentrism, biocentrism, and ecocentrism.

5. Thoroughly explain Garrett Hardin’s tragedy of the commons.

6.Describe a negative feedback loop and a positive feedback loop using your own words. Which type of feedback loop is seen most often in nature?

7. Thoroughly describe the first and second laws of thermodynamics. Be sure to use the word “entropy’ in your description. Which law explains becoming sweaty after exercising?

8. Use your own words to thoroughly describe the electron movement in a single covalent bond.

9. Thoroughly explain what it means to say that energy flows through an ecosystem while nutrients are cycled within an ecosystem.

10. Explain how human activity has altered the global carbon cycle. Why is the alteration of the carbon cycle in this way a concern?

Given your readings this week, we will examine how human population growth causes “suburban sprawl.” Answer the following (you may have to do some external research):

Define suburban sprawl and describe how human population growth causes it.
List the negative, environmental impacts caused by suburban sprawl.
Describe alternatives to suburban sprawl and how we can enact them.
IPAT

Population growth is critical to environmental change. IPAT (from both Week 1 and 2 readings) is an equation that describes four variables that interact to produce environmental change:

Impact = population × affluence × technology (or I = P × A × T)

Based on your knowledge of IPAT, answer these questions:

Given this equation, what drives environmental decline?
Compare the environmental impact of the U.S. against any developing country (try to calculate or find calculations for the actual “I” values); explain what factors contribute to these two different environmental impact factors (this will require external research—avoid repeating your peers’ choice of a developing nation).
Please: title your reply with the developing country you chose, so that your peers can easily scroll down the list to see which developing countries have *not* yet been chosen.

Objective: For the first paper, you will be required to critically analyze both sides of an argument, i.e., both for and against. You have to identify at least two credible sources, summarize each of their arguments along with the evidence they cite, determine which argument is more credible (if both sides make valid arguments, define a compromise position), conclude with a synthesis of credible arguments and if applicable suggest some unresolved issues. The list of potential topics along with a possible angle to look at in the form of a question is provided below. You may also select a relevant topic of your choosing with prior approval from the instructor. It is highly recommended to go beyond news blogs/articles and look at peer reviewed journals, technical reports from leading think tanks/NGOs.

Introduction

Core policy features/motivation/purpose.
What is the question(s) your paper is specifically focusing on
Advantages/Benefits of the Policy

Specific numbers that are cited in the literature to support the policy would be valuable to include.
Disadvantages/Negative Impacts of the Policy

Specific numbers that are cited in the literature that oppose the policy would be valuable to include.
Are there any undesirable consequence(s) of the policy? Are there any unintended consequences that offset the gains ,which the policy failed to anticipate or account for?
Was there any disconnect between the market forces/people/automakers/fuel producers/OEMs/etc. and the policy makers that caused these unintended/undesirable negative effects?
Did the policy have any loopholes that made it susceptible to being exploited in order to flout compliance/regulatory requirements?
Analysis/Conclusions/Synthesis

In your own words, comparative assessment of both sides of the argument.

Use this section to synthesize the credible arguments (for and against)

Some questions to keep in mind : Which source(s)/arguments are backed by strong, credible numbers ; how are the sources justifying their position and how credible are those justifications; which sources(s)/counter arguments seem to be just biased or based on wildly exaggerated claims not backed by credible information, how divergent and varying some of the numbers cited in literature are , how valid are the assumptions made in the paper(s). You can also provide your own perspective or any unresolved issues on this policy.

References/Bibliography

Use google scholar to search for keywords and it also has a feature where you can easily export/copy the reference in standard citation format.
Google news is also a good option to get articles from reputable news outlets/magazines
For additional information on citation:
https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/mla_formatting_and_style_guide/mla_works_cited_electronic_sources.html (Links to an external site.)

It is recommended that you use [numbers] or (Author, Date) format in the body of the paper
IEEE, APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard or Vancouver are all acceptable formats.
If you are using a URL , please make sure it is formatted properly instead of just pasting just the link as references.
Please make sure you list quality references. Peer reviewed journals, articles from reputed news outlets, reports/white papers from state/federal agencies, think tanks, or NGOs , and class readings (required and optional) are a good starting point.

Paper should be less than 4 pages single column, single-spaced including all citations/references, figures, charts, plots, tables, endnotes and footnotes, at least 1-inch margin on all sides and font size at least 11. NO EXCEPTIONS OR EXEMPTIONS TO FORMATTING AND PAGE LIMITATIONS.

The paper should be submitted via Canvas in MS Word format, PDF will not be accepted. You should use relevant required readings as a starting point, but must utilize additional sources identified independently (with guidance available from the instructor and TAs). Citations/references should strictly adhere to commonly used formats such as APA, Chicago, Harvard etc. We strongly recommended using a citation manager like Mendeley, Zotero. All references must be included in the body of text in numeric or author/year format and the detailed citation should be provided at the end of the paper. .
